Hi! My name is Hope Mahakian. I am a senior at Seton Hall University majoring in History. I also have minors in Philosophy and Art.
My time at Seton Hall has allowed me the opportunity to work as a Peer Tutor, where I help fellow students to learn, study, and understand materials from their history classes. It has been an enriching experience as I get to help foster a love of history as some students come in not realizing how events that happened 100 years ago still impact us in the present.
I’ve also had the opportunity to work as the Seton Hall’s History Department Intern the spring of my sophomore year. It lead me on a path to video and social media creation, reigniting a passion I had in Highschool to create videos. As a junior I was chosen to receive a grant from the Seton Hall’s Achieves as a part of a program meant to bring history beyond a research paper. I created a video that explained how and why rationing occurred in the United States during World War II.
I believe that history should be accessible to everyone and that means creating alternative forms of learning. As our world continues to become more digitally based, I believe it is essential we adapt to communicate history in the written and visual forms now more than ever.
